The Religious Studies department at Horndean Technology College is a successful, thriving, and popular subject. We believe that students need to have an understanding of themselves and others, and we help them to develop those skills whilst they are students at Horndean. Using the Hampshire cycle of learning, students communicate their own ideas and reactions to concepts, as well as enquire into what religious ideas mean and how they are part of a bigger context in religion and society. We also focus on students’ evaluation skills so that they can fully explain and justify their opinions on a topic.
Currently, students attend RS lessons three times a fortnight in Years 7 and 8 covering a variety of religions and topics. At GCSE level, Year 9 students have RS three times a fortnight. In Year 10, students have RS 5 times a fortnight and in Year 11 students have RS 7 times a fortnight.
