P2i Developments
Feedback on P2i assignments
Students should expect to receive feedback on their P2i assignments within 2 weeks of the handing in deadline date. This time frame does not include College holiday time or exceptional circumstances (outlined further in this article).
If your son/daughter does not receive feedback within this time frame please contact your child’s class teacher directly or the Subject Leader for that department. If you make contact by email, please copy in Mr J Beck, Assistant Headteacher: jon.beck@horndeantc.hants.sch.uk
Planning and Research – Now optional
The planning and research templates were a new development in September 2007 in response to parental requests for a mechanism by which students could show all the work that has gone in to producing their final product. After consulting some parents and student at the beginning of December 2007 it has become apparent that many students are not using this facility and that many parents are concerned about the amount of time it is taking to complete. These documents are have therefore been made optional. If a student feels that by producing theses 2 documents their teacher will get a better picture of the work they have done then they can still use them.
Better communication through the student planner
On a few occasions a minority of students have not received their P2i assignments or feedback when they have been completed. On most occasions there are regrettable but very good reasons for this. We do, however, fully understand that as parents you will not be aware of these. To try and improve our communication in these cricumstances there will now be two more stickers you may see in your son/daughters planner.
- Setting P2i – as in all professions, staff may occasionally be away from work through illness. If this is a prolonged absence P2i may not be set during this period. If this is the case your son/daughter will receive the following sticker in their planner:
‘Due to staff absence a P2i assignment will not be set this half term/term. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Please address any concerns to the Subject Leader'
- Feedback – On occasions there maybe a delay in issuing a feedback sticker. This may be due to prolonged staff absence after the P2i assignment has been set or short term staff workload increases such as College productions or an individual member of staff teaching a large number of students in a particular year group. If this is the case students will receive the following sticker in their planner:
‘Due to staff absence or short term staff workload increases there will be a delay in the marking of this P2i assignment. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Please address any concerns to the Subject Leader’
Each sticker will have the Subject Leader's name clearly printed on it
Student Responsibility
Regular monitoring of the P2i system shows that some of the problems with students not receiving feedback on P2i assignments lay with the students themselves. In the majority of cases investigated many of the feedback stickers have not been given out because the student has not brought their planner in to College. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure they have their planner for every lesson. If they for any reason do not have their planner then they must take responsibility for seeing the teacher at the next available opportunity (with their planner) so that they can receive their feedback sticker.
P2i not set in the week published on the web & in the planner
A minority of students have all their lessons for a particular subject in one week. This sometimes results in it not being possible for a member of staff to set P2i during the published week. In these circumstances, staff may set the assignment in the week preceding that which is published. However, students will not be expected to start the assignment until the following week. This will give them the full allocation of time to complete the assignment.
The same circumstances may occur with regard to handing in P2i assignments. If your son/daughter does not have a lesson in the published hand in week they will be given a hand in date that still allows them the full allocated time to complete their assignment.
Further questions
If you have any further questions regarding P2i, please contact your child's subject teacher and/or subject leader in the first instance. If you are not satisfied with the response, please contact Mr J Beck, Assistant Headteacher: jon.beck@horndeantc.hants.sch.uk
