P2I Aims

Teaching and Learning

PASSPORT TO INDEPENDENCE (P2i): AIMS

  • To stretch and challenge all students
  • To improve students attitude to out of college hours learning
  • To develop students skills in lifelong learning
  • To allow students to become more responsible for their own learning
  • To prepare students for GCSE coursework and study in Key stage 4

What is P2i?
Welcome to Passport to Independence. P2I is out of college hours learning. Each subject sets a project based activity for students to complete for a certain number of weeks every term or half-term.

The tasks are introduced in lesson time and staff provide 'stepping-stone' guidance to help students complete the tasks.

Setting P2i

When each assignment is set, students will be directed to the website www.showmyhomework.co.uk/horndeantech where the details of each P2I task are recorded. The teacher will go through the assignment with the student and make sure the deadline is noted. The P2I marking criteria, set dates and due dates are all in the student planner on page 23 and is there to be referred to when completing the work.

Deadlines
Deadlines for tasks are staggered throughout the term to assist students and staff manage their workloads effectively. Deadlines are published on the college website (deadlines link) and are in the student planners.

Additional learning tasks
Staff may also set short learning tasks in addition to their main P2I tasks. These tasks will be set to assist the learning of students and help them prepare for internal and external assessments. These will normally be recorded in exercise books or planners.

Assessing P2I
All P2I is marked against a generic criteria that has been designed to develop key transferrable skills, such as researching, being creative and meeting deadlines.  These are called the Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS). Other areas, such as literacy skills and using correct vocabulary are also marked. When each assignment is marked, the student will receive a feedback slip showing what criteria they have met and a mark out of 9. The student will then have time in class to reflect on their work and set themselves a target for improvement.

Reporting on P2i
P2I will be reported on SIMS Learning Gateway each half term, in the same manner as a Progress Review. With each P2I report, results will be added to existing entries, allowing you to be able to see the overall picture by the end of the year.
