Here at Horndean Technology College we understand and acknowledge the fact that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is more vital now than ever.
We must ensure that young people have a knowledge and understanding of hardware and software, and also that they can harness the power of the Internet and the rapidly expanding world of digital Communications. By giving them the skills and confidence to use ICT effectively, we are making it easier for them to find good jobs.
To this end every student follows a course in ICT at Horndean. At Key Stage 3 students follow a course based on the National ICT Strategy. At key stage 4 ICT is a compulsory subject with all students having the opportunity to gain at least one GCSE qualification. All students follow one or more units of the Diploma in Digital Applications (DiDA).
Business Studies & Leisure & Tourism
We are a developing department within the school. We aim to provide a curriculum for Business & Leisure & Tourism education which is broad and balanced. We provide the opportunity for all pupils to achieve their maximum potential through the use of ICT and specialist software. As well as through the opportunity to study a variety of courses.
In the department we have three dedicated rooms. Each of these rooms contains a suite of computers that are used regularly by the classes to aid their learning and to complete coursework.
We provide a working atmosphere within the classroom which is challenging, enjoyable and allows pupils to express their views and show respect for the views of others. We aim to develop awareness in young people of their rights, both as a consumer and citizen and the influence they can bring to bear on environmental, social, political and economic issues. We hope to produce an awareness of the ethical and moral values related to trade both in this country and internationally.
