Careers Education and Guidance Department - Entitlement:
Students at HTC, under Government legislation, are entitled to a quality provision of careers information, support and guidance delivered in partnership with Horndean Technology College and Connexions.
A light touch is applied to the delivery of Careers in Year 7, 8, 9 & 10 through PSHE lessons.
The programme includes guidance with the GCSE Choices programme, Work Experience preparation in Year 10 and FE/College pathways in Year 11.
An annual Careers Fair is held during the evening where parents and students are invited to attend.
HTC offer access to a dedicated Careers Resource Centre with access to intranet Careers programme e.g. Kudos. There is a dedicated Connexions Interview Room for Careers Interviews with one of our Connexions Personal Advisers.
The Connexions Personal Adviser attends a Year 7 assembly, speaks to Year 8 tutor groups in the Careers Resource Centre, visits some Year 9 Careers lessons and becomes very active with 1:1 careers interviews and small group sessions in the Connexions Room. The Connexions Personal Advisers are on site to provide guidance and support.
This planned programme of career experiences is in direct response to the basic entitlement our students are expected to receive while at HTC.
Benefits include a higher percentage of students staying in Education and Training and a high profile Work Experience programme. As a result, we have forged very positive links with local businesses. There are many benefits for our students who, through being able to access careers information easily, gain a clear insight into the World of Work. As a result they handle the transition from Horndean to Further Education or the workplace smoothly.
The Careers Resource Centre is used by students who are serious about their future careers and want to start to look at the options available after HTC.
