Last year marked HTC’s first ever entry into the renowned Rock Challenge competition and the talents of the young dancer’s secured them two winning titles – an incredible achievement for their first ever attempt! This year the students are hoping to have even greater success and are putting their all into producing a vibrant and energetic performance that will be sure to impress the judges. Wanting to tackle an issue that has been of great significance over the past year, the HTC Rock Challenge team have chosen to base their piece around the theme of money and the present social climate.

With the students wanting to put on a spectacular performance, they are very much hoping that the Dance-a-thon will not only create further support and awareness of their hard work, but also enable them to raise some much needed funds to help towards the cost of costumes, make-up and an impressive set design.

Layla Bahrami, Dance teacher at Horndean Technology College, said “The Dance-a-thon is a community event, involving lots of other students from HTC as well as community dance groups and schools within the local area. This is an evening to celebrate dance as well as being a fun way to support the students and staff for the up and coming show!!”

The Dance-a-thon will take place at Barton Hall on Friday 22nd of January from 3pm- 9pm.There will be lots of dancing, live music, raffle, cake stall and much more….All can be involved £1.00 to participate, sponsorship forms available too.

Healthy Schools Award Presentation

Two year 9 students collecting the Healthy schools award on behalf of HTC.

They were tasked by a team of design engineers and project managers from Lockheed Martin to design and build a device that could recover a Merlin Mk1 Helicopter downed through engine trouble while on a search and rescue mission. The event was attended by teams of Gifted and Talented Science and Engineering Students from throughout the Portsmouth area. Students developed their skills in and awareness of careers such as Project Management and Structural, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering by designing and making a crane and electronic winch device to lift the stricken helicopter and lower it down onto a recovery bogey.
